Charles Kennedy today boosted the Liberal Democrat campaign in Edinburgh North & Leith by backing Mike Crockart to be our new local MSP.

Charles Kennedy joined Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen and other candidates from across Edinburgh to officially launch the campaign.

Charles said, "Mike Crockart would make a first class MSP for Edinburgh North & Leith. He came a close second to Labour at the last election in this constituency and it is clear that more and more people are backing his strong positive campaign.

"As a former policeman, Mike really understands the impact that crime and anti-social behaviour has on local communities. His campaign for more community police officers and tougher community sentences has attracted wide support from Pilton to Pilrig and Newhaven to New Town."

Mike Crockart said, "It was great to have Charles Kennedy's support for the campaign. In the first few days of the campaign, we have been inundated with messages of support. More and more people are switching to the Liberal Democrats in Edinburgh North & Leith, the only party which can beat Labour here on May 3rd."
