Community news - Edinburgh Community Backgreens Association comes to Leith
2.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 19th Apr 2009
The ECBA has operated in the West of the city for over three years, and now that they've secured additional funding, they are bringing their community rejuvenation plans to the backgreens between Leith Walk and Easter Road.
Liberal Democrat Councillor, Louise Lang, attended their launch meeting at Out of the Blue on Dalmeny Street last week and was pleased to see a high attendance from local residents.
She said, "This is a great initiative, bringing communities together to work alongside professionals in order to make a huge improvement on our often run-down backgreens. Every Saturday during Spring and Summer, people can go along to join in, helping clear out, tidy up, redesign and replant these great greenspaces. People don't have to go every week, and the team will move around different backgreens.
If you help out at least once a month then you earn a free place on ECBA's "Grow Your Own" workshops".
