Liberal Democrat councillors Louise Lang and Elaine Morris, who represent the Leith Walk and Forth wards, have welcomed the newly established Practice Team for Children Affected by Disability.

The team, which comprises social workers, occupational therapists and social care workers, will work with children and their families, offering a more specialist and comprehensive service.

Cllr Lang said, "In the autumn of 2008 we had a report to the Education Committee which highlighted that more needed to be done in this area. I am delighted that, under this Administration, we have been able to put something in place to give children and their families easier access to support and services".

Cllr Morris added, "With additional funding of £350,000, this group will be able to provide enhanced care packages and additional services to those who need it most".
