A couple of years ago the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership was set up. This is a joint group representing the council, police, the fire service, NHS Lothian, Port of Leith Housing and community groups. It is a way of bringing decision-making to a local level and local Liberal Democrat councillor Louise Lang (Leith Walk) and Marjorie Thomas (Leith Harbour) are keen to see residents take an active role in their partnership. Cllr Lang explained, "The partnership has a budget available to support new and innovative ideas from local community groups which will benefit the area. Our environment subgroup has already been able to invest money in our parks and open spaces. I would encourage local residents and community groups to come along to one of our public meetings and see how the partnership can help them." Cllr Thomas added, "The partnership is eager to see local people, who know best what services are needed in the area, to participate. Whether just to come along and listen to what is happening or to ask questions of the councillors, all are welcome." The next public meeting is on the 16th September. The time and venue to still to be confirmed but more information can be found at http://www.edinburghnp.org.uk/page/Leith.aspx
