A leading bookmaker has lengthened the odds on the Tories or SNP winning Edinburgh North & Leith, with all the signs pointing to a close contest between Labour and local Liberal Democrat, Kevin Lang.

With recent national polls showing the Liberal Democrats standing a real chance of beating Labour locally, Ladbrokes have lengthened the odds on a Tory victory in Edinburgh North & Leith to 4/1 with the SNP an even greater outside bet at 5/1. Meanwhile, the odds on Lib Dem, Kevin Lang winning stand at 2/1 compared to Labour at 11/8.

Edinburgh North & Leith has long been a Labour / Liberal Democrat battleground.

The Conservatives meanwhile have come third or fourth in every parliamentary election in Edinburgh North & Leith for the last 20 years and are already admitting they cannot win. A Tory councillor and former General Election candidate has even admitted the Liberal Democrats stand a better chance of beating Labour.

The SNP came a distant fourth last time with their own General Election candidate admitting Edinburgh North & Leith is not an obvious target for his party.

The Liberal Democrats meanwhile are fighting Edinburgh North & Leith to win. Only the Lib Dems have a chance of beating Labour and stopping them from taking our area for granted.

Edinburgh North & Leith Liberal Democrat campaign manager, Alex Cole-Hamilton said, "It's no surprise to see the bookies have ranked the Conservatives and SNP as outsiders in Edinburgh North & Leith. More and more people are switching to back Kevin Lang to be our new local MP. People are impressed with his energy, enthusiasm and determination to get things done.

"People are fed up with a party that has taken our community for granted and are looking for a positive alternative. Kevin will be a hard working local MP for Edinburgh North & Leith who will stand up and speak out for local people. He will be a real local champion and someone who will put local people first."
