Good news as Leith earmarked for green jobs boost4.22.00pm GMT Thu 4th Feb 2010
Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed a new report that identifies Leith as the top location in Scotland for a new wind turbine manufacturing facility. The report, published by Scottish Enterprise, singled out 11 ports as having the potential to play a key role in growing the offshore wind sector in Scotland. Leith was scored as the best of the areas considered. The investment could see 700 new green jobs created for the manufacture of 600 new wind turbines in the Firth of Forth. Local Liberal Democrat candidate, Kevin Lang commented, "It is great new that Leith has scored so highly in this study. There is enormous potential for these new green jobs to be brought to Leith, which given the recent increases in unemployment locally, I know would be a huge boost. "It is now essential for the Government to turn this potential into reality. If they do, it is a win win for our local community - new green jobs locally and more green renewable energy to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels."
